After shaving
(which can be done at home) and
applying a cold gel, gentle
pulses of light are emitted
directly into the hair
follicle. The pigment (melanin)
in the follicle absorbs the
light energy and destroys the
follicles ability to re-grow
hair. For this reason, AFT/IPL
technology does not work on
white or light color hair.
You may
experience a mild stinging
sensation as the pulse of light
flashes. Most treatments take
only minutes (depending on the
size of the area to be treated)
and you will be able to resume
normal daily activities
immediately.
Because all hairs
are not actively growing at the
same time, multiple treatments
(3-5) are needed. Only hair
follicles in the growth cycle,
at the time of treatment, are
affected. Treatments can be
repeated every 6 weeks. Over
time, you may notice the
regrowth of some hair. A yearly
touch up may be needed.
Tanning should be
avoided for at least 2 weeks
before and after treatments.
Having tanned skin makes you
more prone to possible side
effects due to increased pigment
in the skin, causing more energy
to be absorbed by the skin.
Tanning includes any treatment
that darkens the skin, including
the sun, tanning beds, bronzing
beds, spray on tans, or
self-tanning lotions.
You can shave
between treatments. In fact, we
ask that you shave before your
appointment. IPL/AFT hair
removal works best if there is
not much surface hair.
Tweezing, waxing, bleaching, or
using depilatories should be
stopped to avoid damage to the
follicles. |
