Morris M. Elstein, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

Dr. Elstein is a board certified solo gynecologist who has been practicing in the Tidewater area of Virginia since 1981. His specialty interests include menopause and hormone therapy, as well as gynecologic surgery, office care, uro-gynecology, and teaching.

Dr. Elstein did his undergraduate work at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, where he earned a BS with a major in biochemistry. He received his MD degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and did his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine in Norfolk, Virginia.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a member of and certified menopause practitioner through the North American Menopause Society.

Dr. Elstein is very active in his community, lecturing on various topics related to women's health, especially menopause. However, his interests and expertise extend beyond traditional ob-gyn topics: he has also lectured on the spiritual aspects of menopause and how life experiences challenge patients physically, emotionally, and spiritually. In addition, Dr. Elstein is a certified Conservative mohel, performing ritual circumcision for the Jewish community of Virginia.

Rita Joyce, Nurse Practitioner, has been providing women’s health services since 1982. Rita has extensive experience with infertility and hormone related issues along with her general gynecologic practice. I have personally known Rita as a health care professional since 1977.

Dr. Elstein and Rita see patients by appointment only and do not double or block book appointments; thus, you are the only patient assigned to that appointment slot. We endeavor to be on time but hope that you understand that each patient’s needs are individually considered and occasionally take longer to meet than the “standard” appointment slot. Emergencies do occasionally arise that may necessitate changing your appointment, and we ask your patience and understanding as we try to reschedule as soon as possible. If you need to cancel or change your appointment, please notify us immediately in order to make your time slot available to other clients.

Now that you know the players, please assist us in providing your care by carefully and completely filling out the enclosed patient information forms. If you are being referred by another physician for a consultation, please make sure that we have the appropriate referral forms and any office records and lab which will assist us in your evaluation. Maureen will help coordinate the transfer of your records as needed. Dr. Elstein will also communicate with your referring physician after your visit. Remember your care and records are confidential, and we take great care to insure your privacy. If for any reason you do not want your records or medical information released to your primary care physician or insurance company, please make sure that you notify us in writing, since we frequently receive requests for information from insurance companies in this world of “managed care.”

His specialty interests include menopause, gynecologic surgery, office care, uro-gynecology (treatment of incontinence), and teaching.

The Pardes Skin and Wellness Center offers permanent hair removal, treatment of leg/spider veins, and skin rejuvenation including microdermabrasion. Ann Bowser, RN heads this center and is available for consultations. This service is available for both men and women.

At Coastal Gynecology, we strive to meet the needs of our clients in a timely fashion, believing that your time is as important as ours. Communication is a key component to practicing compassionate medicine, from making or changing an appointment to expressing the need for a phone consult or to fully understanding how we can meet your needs when perhaps other practices have not.

Meet the Staff

Maureen Sawyer,

Office Coordinator

Maureen has worked for Dr. Elstein since April 1994. She runs the front office. Maureen's duties include checking-in and out patients at the front desk, scheduling appointments, taking phone messages, scheduling surgeries, filing and checking on insurance coverage.

Ann Bowser

Ann Bowser, RN

Employed by Coastal GYN since 1999. Ann has been a Labor and Delivery Nurse for 25 years. She is married to Kevin and has two children (ages 18-20). Ann is a Chapter Co-Leader for the Tidewater Chapter of AWHONN (Association of Women's Health, Obstetrico and Neonatal Nurses (National Nursing Organization.)

Ann moved to Virginia Beach in 1984 and is from Southwestern Pennsylvania.
